RefresherTraining.Net (RTN), a Web-based self-defense training organization, is on a mission to reduce the number of officers injured on duty by providing them with innovative, self-defense based tactical training.

The RTN staff has had the good fortune to travel across the U.S. training and networking with law enforcement professional from federal, state, county and municipal agencies. We have worked with large metropolitan agencies with 5,000 plus personnel to small townships with 10 or less. We have conducted instructor courses, seminars and have helped agencies set-up, improved or re-vamp their defensive- tactics training program. During this time we spoke with and more importantly listened to the many voices of our fellow peace officers and a common theme continued to ring in our ears, “How can we provide current and up-to-date refresher training on a regular bases to our people, after they have graduated from the academy?” Our solution is to use information technology to replenish and not replace the physical skills training needed by all law enforcement professionals.

We know that the criminal element seeks to evolve by using dirty tactics, better weapons, body armor and other tools of the trade to defeat our efforts to bring them to justice. We must evolve to meet this adversary and win. Defensive-Tactics training is the bedrock of every peace officer’s “survival skills.” It teaches us how to recognize various types of threats and enables us to escalate or de-escalate using the appropriate level of force and take the individual(s) into custody. We know from our own experience and after reviewing many department policy manuals that most agencies invest more time and money on firearms training and qualifications than on physical skills training and qualifications. Yet we all know that a peace officer during their career will get in more fights than shootings. RTN’s goal is to become a “training catalyst” by demonstrating how agencies can create a balance in firearms, defensive tactics and use of force legal training that is holistic and can be replicated by any agency large or small. We want to make training available to every peace officer, corrections officer, and military police officer, no matter where they work and no matter what their budget. We can do this by using the tools of the information age to bring training to you with just a click of a button.
